UL Standards

The American UL standard essentially corresponds to the German VDE standard.

The organisation Underwriters Laboratories (UL) was founded in 1894 and is headquartered in Illinois, USA.  UL does not “approve” products; instead, it tests whether products, components, materials, and systems fulfil specific requirements. If they do, these products may then bear the UL test seal for a fee, as long as they maintain the prescribed standards.

In principle, the UL seal does not have any more legal weight than other trademarks. Because of this, it differs, for instance from a CE-designation, which is legally required in Europe. However, UL is the most well-known testing organisation in the USA, enjoying a very high level of acceptance.

At SPS electronic, you will always receive testing devices developed in house which fulfil the specific requirements of UL standards. All devices have intuitive operations, and generate all the documents and certifications you need after a successful test. That means you’ll always be playing it safe!
